One is focused on supporting artists, the other on the development of innovative automotive engineering solutions: Despite being distinctive and separate, AVL and the AVL Culture Foundation employ similar creative approaches to reach their goals. Yet online, there was nothing substantive to tie them together. So how can technology, innovative thinking and bold execution bring two distinct organisations together to celebrate their shared values, vision, history and mindset?

BRIDGING THE GAP: THE MISSION

SCOOP & SPOON were tasked with bridging the gap between the two – could intelligent content delivery technology bring these organisations together and highlight the parallel processes of artist and scientist? Could a unique user experience be created by serving the content of the two organisations in a way that seemed natural, but leave the site visitor with much more than they originally came for?

As a natural progression of the AVL Digital Ecosystem that we had built for AVL.com, we incorporated the backend of AVLCF.com into AVL Digital, bringing both sets of content together in such a way that it naturally fits into both digital environments. Depending on the visitor’s specific user journey, this results in AVL CF and AVL content being experienced in a unique way that crosses the divide between ‘Art & Science’ – the main goal of the AVL Cultural Foundation and a key vision of AVL.

ART & SCIENCE: THE GOAL

Through their ‘Arts & Science’ platform the AVL Cultural Foundation supports and embraces projects that close the gap between the two disciplines. The AVL CF seeks to facilitate a dynamic and open dialogue that enables artists and scientists to connect the many parallels between their respective fields of work – and more often than not, all it takes is a mere glance to recognise the similarities between the two.

Since it was founded in 2007, The Foundation has proven time and time again, with hundreds of successful projects, that science and art are two sides of the same coin. This was highlighted again most recently when the AVL CF commissioned the invention of the brand-new musical instrument, the ‘Irvine 7’. Combining the innovative power of AVL high-precision crystals used in automotive engine sensors with the unique vision of musical artist Andy Cavatorta, the project gave birth to a completely new sound. Automotive technology meets futuristic art to form a new cultural creation.

AVL DIGITAL
THE BRIDGE BETWEEN AVL & AVL CF

  • To create joint user journeys for website visitors, the AVL Digital Ecosystem brings the AVL and AVL CF content management system together to create a mutual content pool
  • The conjoined recommender engine treats chunks of content individually, allowing for shared usage of the CMS between AVL and AVL CF
  • AVL Digital combines content and facilitates reciprocal utilisation of data
  • This way, AVL and AVL CF content can be displayed on both websites simultaneously

A JOINT USER JOURNEY

Visitors of AVL.com and AVLCF.com are served an interdisciplinary user experience from the innovative, intelligent recommender engine of the AVL Digital Ecosystem. From the mutual content pool of the combined backends a unique joint user journey is generated: Depending on the content that visitors are consuming, the engine will suggest a variety of related topics.

EXEMPLARY JOINT USER JOURNEY

  • User reads about sensors and AVL pressure measurements (AVL.com content)
  • AVL Digital may recommend AVL CF project "Irvine 7", which uses AVL crystals for pressure measurements to create a musical instrument (AVLCF.com content)
  • Similar projects of AVL CF may be recommended (AVLCF.com content)
  • Related content may appear about AVL's subsidiary Piezocryst, the company responsible for the crystals (AVL.com content)

THE POSSIBILITIES FOR CONTENT USER JOURNEYS ARE ENDLESS,
TO SHOW VISITORS THE WORLD OF AVL AND THE AVL CULTURAL FOUNDATION IN AN ENJOYABLE,
DISCREET AND UNOBTRUSIVE WAY THAT THEY MAY NOT HAVE KNOWN ABOUT BEFORE.
